Kit Harington, the Game of Thrones actor best known for playing Jon Snow, has publicly addressed swirling rumors that Marvel Studios is developing a supernatural ensemble film called Midnight Sons. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Harington said he was never approached by the studio to reprise his role as Dane Whitman, also known as the Black Knight, and claimed that nothing concrete about such a team-up project was ever communicated to him.
The comments arrive amid significant turbulence in Marvel Studios’ supernatural plans. After years of starts and stops, Blade—the film starring Mahershala Ali—was effectively canceled, at least with Ali in the lead role. That cancellation coincided with news that Ryan Gosling would instead star in a Ghost Rider movie, reigniting speculation about whether Marvel might pivot toward a larger ensemble project bringing together its supernatural characters.
The Midnight Sons Concept
The Midnight Sons were originally formed in Marvel comics during the early 1990s, featuring heroes such as Blade, Ghost Rider, and Morbius. Over recent years, several members of that team have already been introduced into the MCU’s live-action canon, including Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Wong, and Elsa Bloodstone.
Harington himself was set up through 2021’s Eternals, whose postcredits scene teased his character Dane Whitman. That film has since become a point of discussion for its failure to fulfill many of the promises it made, with several setups left dangling—including the reveal of Harry Styles as Eros, Thanos’ brother, and a brief tease of Mahershala Ali’s Blade.
“Nothing solid [was] ever communicated” about a team film featuring his MCU character. “They’ll throw a character in and see if it goes anywhere. And in the end it didn’t.”

Haringson, however, did not close the door entirely on returning to the role one day. He described Whitman as “a really interesting character” and expressed genuine fascination with the arc of the Black Knight.

“There’s something fascinating to play with the Black Knight: the Ebony Blade is what he uses and then gets bloodlust. There’s an interesting story of someone going from hero to villain there. So yeah, anyone from Marvel watching… I do think it could be a fascinating story but they have so much.”

A Broader Conversation About the Team
Harington is not the only actor to weigh in on the possibility of a Midnight Sons film. Earlier this year, Oscar Isaac, who plays Moon Knight, also addressed rumors about the project during an episode of Happy Sad Confused, though he remained non-committal about whether such a movie would actually come to fruition.
“Yeah, there was interesting talk about Midnight Sons,” Isaac said in April. “Tonally, it’s really important because we’re playing with real stuff with that one. It’s expressing something very real, challenging, and difficult. I feel like … you gotta take it seriously as well. Even though it’s a crazy comic book, that’s what it’s trying to do, it’s doing both of those things.”
The actor comments come at a moment when Marvel fans have little official confirmation about the future of its supernatural slate. With Blade effectively shelved and Ghost Rider being reworked around Gosling, the ensemble film many anticipated remains firmly in rumor territory.
Looking Ahead
Until Marvel Studios makes an official announcement regarding a Midnight Sons project, fans have another way to experience these characters: the 2022 video game Marvel’s Midnight Suns. That release blended XCOM-style tactical combat with a darker roster of Marvel superheroes, offering players a chance to control many of the supernatural heroes tied to the comics team.
Whether Harington and others will eventually return to their respective roles remains unclear. For now, the Black Knight’s MCU future hangs in limbo, leaving both actors and audiences waiting to see whether Marvel ever commits to bringing its supernatural ensemble to the big screen.
