For years, PlayStation players have celebrated reaching 100 percent completion in a game by earning the coveted Platinum Trophy, while Xbox owners have had to settle for achievements with no grand finale reward. Now, that long-standing discrepancy may be on the verge of change: an Xbox Insider has reportedly spotted what appears to be a “Mythic Achievement” filter within the console’s achievement system, potentially introducing an equivalent to Sony’s signature platinum honor.

The discovery emerged when a member of the Xbox Insider program was browsing through their achievements and tapped into the Filters option. Among the Game Completion filters, they found an entry labeled “Completed/Incomplete Mythic Achievement.” Activating this filter caused only the games the player had fully completed to appear on their achievements page—a behavior that closely mirrors how PlayStation’s Platinum system surfaces finished titles.

Achievements Without a Grand Finale

The distinction between the two platforms has long been a point of discussion among dedicated gamers. On PlayStation, unlocking every trophy in a game grants a Platinum Trophy, serving as a visible badge of total completion. Xbox, by contrast, uses achievements throughout a game’s lifecycle but offers no special reward for collecting them all—an omission that many players have noted feels incomplete.

The newly surfaced Mythic Achievement filter suggests Microsoft may be preparing to address that gap. While the company has not issued any official announcement or blog post about the feature, its functionality aligns closely with what would constitute Xbox’s answer to the Platinum Trophy: a marker reserved for those who have conquered every challenge a game offers.

The Role of the Xbox Insider Program

Detections like this one are made possible by the Xbox Insider program, which grants select users early access to beta features while they remain in testing. It is precisely through these Insiders that details such as the disc-to-digital program have been revealed ahead of their public launch. Because Insider-only features are not available to the wider audience at first, Microsoft can gather feedback and refine them before a broader rollout.

An Xbox Alpha Skip-Ahead Insider was going through their achievements when they noticed the Game Completion filters included an option for “Completed/Incomplete Mythic Achievement.” Enabling this filter made only the games they had 100 percent completed appear on their achievements page.

The specific discovery came from a user in the Alpha Skip-Ahead tier, one of the earliest levels of the insider testing track. That placement explains why such an experimental feature would surface here before reaching mainstream devices—early-stage Insiders routinely encounter functionality that has yet to be polished or announced.

Verification Still Pending

As of now, Microsoft has not publicly confirmed the addition of Mythic Achievements to its achievement system nor provided a timeline for any potential wide release. To verify the feature’s legitimacy, Polygon attempted to locate the same filter on its own Xbox Series X unit but was unable to find it. The publication has reached out to Xbox seeking confirmation about whether Mythic Achievements are indeed in development.

The absence of the filter on a standard console does not necessarily rule out its existence; experimental features often remain locked behind tier-specific access before becoming available across all devices. Until Microsoft speaks officially, however, the Mythic Achievement remains an intriguing possibility rather than a confirmed feature.

Looking Ahead

If Microsoft moves forward with the concept, players could soon see a completion-based reward that finally brings Xbox in line with PlayStation’s long-established tradition. The company has not yet shared details regarding a release window, rollout strategy, or any design specifics for how Mythic Achievements might function once publicly available.

Polygon has confirmed it is awaiting a response from Microsoft and will update its coverage with new information should the studio provide confirmation. Until then, Xbox owners hoping for their own version of the Platinum Trophy can only watch as this early signal takes shape—potentially marking the end of a years-long gap between the two platforms’ completion rewards.
