Amazon MGM Studios has struck again with its expanding action franchise, and this time the newcomer is outpacing the very show that spawned it. Neagley, an eight-episode spinoff built around Maria Sten’s Frances Neagley, debuted on Prime Video in mid-August and quickly climbed to become the streamer’s No. 1 series worldwide, knocking Alan Ritchson’s Reacher from its long-held top spot.
The shift came after a wave of momentum following the season finale of Reacher on Sept. 16. With fans hungry for more of Lee Child’s universe, Amazon dropped all eight episodes of Neagley at once, a release strategy that has clearly paid off. The spinoff now sits atop streaming charts across the United States, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe, while Reacher settles into No. 2 in its own franchise.
A New Hero Rides for Prime Video
The series follows Frances Neagley, a private investigator based in Chicago and former protégé of Jack Reacher from the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit. Sten appeared across the first three seasons of Reacher before taking center stage in her own stand-alone story. When she learns that a friend from her past has died in a suspicious accident, Neagley becomes hellbent on justice, setting herself on a dangerous path toward uncovering what the series describes as a menacing evil.
Unlike Reacher, which adapts Lee Child’s novels directly, Neagley is not a straightforward adaptation of the author’s books. Instead, it draws on the character created by Child while charting its own narrative course. The cast also includes Greyston Holt, Matthew Del Negro, Adeline Rudolph, Damon Herriman, and Joel Keller.

A Second Season Already Confirmed
The show’s success arrived fast. Just two weeks after its debut on Prime Video, Amazon MGM officially confirmed that a second season of the Maria Sten-led series is coming, signaling strong confidence in the property from studios executives who had watched Reacher dominate streaming for years.
“Audiences around the world have embraced Frances Neagley as a force all her own.” Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios

Friedlander praised Sten’s work and the creative team behind the project. “Maria Sten delivers a commanding, layered performance that drives every episode, and Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton have built a world that is both thrilling and compelling,” he said in the announcement. “We are excited to continue this story and explore what’s next for Neagley with our partners at Paramount Television Studios.”
Looking Ahead
Amazon MGM did not announce a release window for Neagley season 2, but based on the first season’s production timeline, Reacher fans likely won’t see it until 2028. With Reacher season 5 expected sometime in 2027, Neagley season 2 should give followers of the action franchise something to tide them over until a sixth installment arrives.
The rapid greenlight underscores how aggressively Amazon is leveraging its most reliable streaming property. What began as a single adaptation of Lee Child’s novels has grown into a durable franchise capable of launching new leads and commanding top-chart positions on its own, proving that the world around Jack Reacher can carry its own weight.
