A new mod for The Witcher 3 Remastered has transformed the game’s infamous low-poly pigeon from an internet punchline into its most triumphant in-game mascot yet. Released this week by modder grapedia, “Low-Poly Pigeon – The Revenge” replaces every griffon in CD Projekt Red’s fantasy RPG with a giant version of the famously blocky bird, turning the game’s signature aerial enemies into an affectionate tribute to one of gaming’s most enduring memes.

The low-poly pigeon first captured players’ imaginations shortly after the next-gen version released in 2022. Its vacant stare and heroic lack of polygons made it an instant subject for online mockery, but over time it evolved into what fans affectionately dubbed the game’s unofficial mascot. Now, years later, grapedia has delivered a mod that lets the bird finally fight back.

The Pigeon’s Long-Awaited Revenge

The mod’s description reads like an origin story for the disgraved bird. “For years, the low-poly pigeon was a joke. People posted him on the internet, turned him into memes, used him as a reaction image and laughed at his tiny body, vacant stare and heroic lack of polygons,” grapedia wrote. “He saw all of it. Every post. Every edit. Every comment. And he could not do anything about it. He was just a pigeon. He could only stand there, quietly cooing, while the entire internet made fun of him. But humiliation has a way of building up, and eventually even the most harmless bird reaches his breaking point.”

“Every griffin encounter, every hunt and every supposedly terrifying aerial attack is now carried out by the same bird you once laughed at. Their sounds have also been replaced with pigeon cooing, so they will calmly announce their arrival before trying to kill you. He could not fight back on the internet. He could not stop the memes. But here, in the Northern Realms, things are different. The pigeon finally has claws, wings, several thousand hit points and absolutely nothing left to lose.”

A Demise Greatly Exaggerated

The timing of the mod arrives on the heels of some panic among fans. When The Witcher 3 Remastered released at the end of last month, players briefly thought CD Projekt had updated the pigeon asset to match the game’s enhanced graphics. Fans declared low-poly pigeon dead as tributes to the majestic monster went viral across social media.

The fear turned out to be greatly exaggerated. While CD Projekt did improve the graphics for pigeons standing on the ground, those in flight remain just as bizarrely lo-fi looking as ever. That preservation of the bird’s iconic low-poly appearance inspired grapedia to release a long-overdue mod that celebrates the meme in-game in a way fans had wanted for years.

The community has embraced the result with enthusiasm. “Never even knew this meme was a thing until now but this is peak,” read one response, while another player declared the game “finally playable” once again.

Looking Ahead

This mod arrives as CD Projekt Red continues to work through launch-week wrinkles for The Witcher 3 Remastered. The studio recently issued a patch that makes various lighting adjustments and has promised additional fixes, including one targeting bloom effects on the way. Separate community efforts have also surfaced settings tweaks and mods designed to improve performance on PC.

For now, however, grapedia’s creation stands as a fitting tribute to one of gaming’s most unlikely icons—a bird that spent years enduring ridicule before finally getting its moment in the spotlight, complete with thousands of hit points and absolutely nothing to lose.
