The official social media account for the popular RPG-dating sim Love and Deepspace issued a stark warning to its fanbase on September 28 after revealing five fictional cocktail recipes that contain ingredients poisonous to humans. The developer, Infold Games, had unveiled the “Shimmering Blend” drinks as part of an in-game event—each themed around one of the game’s romanceable characters—but quickly followed up with a safety notice urging players not to attempt making or consuming them outside of the game.

The recipes were designed to celebrate the game’s roster of love interests, but several featured garnishes drawn from real plants that carry serious health risks. While the drinks look visually striking on screen, the developer came under fire for including botanical elements that could cause severe harm if actually ingested, prompting concerned fans to demand the posts be removed.

The cocktails behind the controversy

Among the five revealed recipes was a drink made with pomegranate juice and garnished with cinnamon and datura. Another featured sweet peach juice paired with a flame lily garnish and gelatin sheets. While the fruit juices themselves pose no danger, the floral garnishes are the source of concern.

Datura is a highly poisonous plant that, when consumed, can produce side effects including delirium, fever, tachycardia, and hallucinations. Flame lilies contain colchicine throughout all parts of the plant; while used in medicinal contexts, it can be lethal, causing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and even hypovolemic shock—a condition involving dangerous loss of blood and bodily fluids.

Fans sound the alarm

It did not take long for players to identify the dangerous plants in the recipes, fearing that some fans might attempt to recreate the cocktails for real. Commenters flooded the replies with calls for the account to delete the post entirely.

'Do Not Attempt to Recreate'

“Delete this. This is literal poison. Nobody make this.”

A concerned fan

Others echoed similar warnings, expressing disbelief that such recipes were being shared publicly. “Hey, so some of these flowers are literally poisonous. Be careful. This is so reckless to post this,” one commenter wrote, while another added: “Don’t try to recreate these drinks, they contain toxic plants! I can’t believe this is posted as ‘recipes.'”

The developer responds

Not long after the backlash emerged, the Love and Deepspace account published a follow-up post with an explicit safety notice. “All drinks shown are fictional and for in-game purposes only. Do not attempt to recreate or consume them in reality,” the statement read.

The clarification came as part of an ongoing effort by Infold Games to engage its dedicated community, which has proven both passionate and vocal about how it wants to be treated across all official channels.

The incident arrives amid a period of heightened activity around the game’s social media accounts. In addition to cocktail-related concerns, fans have flooded the pages with tributes to Valko, a love interest who was announced and subsequently canceled before ever being released into play.

This prompted an impressive movement from players, who created online shrines to the character and even gathered outside the developer’s physical offices to make their voices heard. The episode underscored the deep connection between the game and its community—one that makes responsible communication all the more important for the studio.

Looking ahead

The Shimmering Blend event remains part of the in-game experience, though the developer has made clear that the associated recipes exist solely within the world of Love and Deepspace. Players are encouraged to enjoy the content as intended while steering clear of attempting any real-world recreations.
