The Pokémon Company has officially unveiled a new space-themed merchandise collection developed in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), bringing home the story of the astronaut plush that spent 67 days aboard the International Space Station. The drop, available now directly from The Pokémon Center, features two new Pikachu plushies priced at $29.99 each, apparel, enamel pins, and a range of Trading Card Game accessories designed to celebrate the celestial collaboration.
The centerpiece of the collection is a new Pikachu plush modeled after the original ESA astronaut plush taken on its orbital flight earlier this year. That signature design followed ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot into space, where it circled Earth more than 1,000 times over its nearly two-month stay in orbit before returning to Earth for fans worldwide.
A Collaboration Launched from Space
The Pokémon and ESA partnership officially kicked off on April 11, when the original astronaut Pikachu plush was launched into space aboard a mission to the International Space Station. Over the course of its 67-day orbital residency, the plush orbited Earth more than 1,000 times, capturing global attention as one of the most unusual ambassadors for space exploration in recent memory.
The partnership is now returning to Earth just ahead of World Space Week, which kicks off on October 4. That same date will also see the launch of a new space-themed event in Pokémon GO alongside interactive “Space and Pokémon” exhibitions at select museums across Europe, extending the collaboration beyond merchandise into live experiences.
What’s Available in the Collection
For fans shopping outside of Europe, the collection offers a range of purchasable items even if the accompanying games and exhibitions remain region-specific. The new Trading Card Game accessories are led by a binder, deck box, and playmat, all featuring illustrations of astronaut Pikachu floating alongside Lunatone, Cosmog, and Minior.
Fans can also collect T-shirts and hoodies bearing the same cosmic Pokémon graphic. The most expensive item in the drop is a full bomber jacket listed at $129.99, which features individual Pokémon patches and a Poké Ball zipper as its signature detail.
The Pokémon franchise is marking its 30th anniversary this year, and there have been plenty of partnerships to celebrate the milestone. This collaboration with ESA reflects the series’ enduring ethos of sparking curiosity and wonder about the world around us.
The Pokémon Company
The collection arrives as Pokémon celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, a milestone that has already produced numerous partnerships across media and merchandise. Astronaut Pikachu joins a broader roster of space-associated characters in the franchise’s universe, with Lunatone, Cosmog, and Minior all appearing on the new accessories.
Looking Ahead
While most of the collection is available for purchase now, one item still lacks a concrete release date. A new figure of Pikachu dressed in his astronaut outfit remains listed as an upcoming product described by The Pokémon Company as “delightful and inspiring,” leaving fans to anticipate its arrival.
