The Fast & Furious franchise is expanding beyond the big screen, with Universal Pictures and NBCUniversal officially greenlighting a new television series on Peacock. Announced by Deadline on October 1, 2026, the show will see Vin Diesel return as executive producer, extending one of Hollywood’s most lucrative automotive franchises into streaming. The series is slated to premiere in 2028, deliberately timed alongside the release of the franchise’s final film.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for a property that has grossed billions worldwide across ten feature films. Rather than concluding with the upcoming finale, Universal is betting that the brand’s devoted fanbase will follow Dom Toretto and his crew into a serialized format, ensuring the universe continues to generate revenue long after the theatrical run wraps up.
A Long-Awaited Expansion
Diesel first hinted at the television project in May 2026 during a talk at NBCUniversal’s Upfront event, explaining that sustained fan demand pushed the studio toward expanding its high-octane intellectual property. Rather than introducing entirely new characters, the creative team has committed to growing existing ones.
“As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.”

Diesel emphasized that the family-centric themes central to the films would carry over into the new medium. “That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space,” he added.
A Four-Show Universe Takes Shape
The Peacock series is just one piece of a broader expansion strategy. According to Deadline, four separate shows are being developed for the Fast & Furious universe. Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy, PONIES) and Wolfe Coleman (9-1-1: Lone Star) will serve as writers and showrunners on the flagship series.
The remaining three projects carry their own creative talent. One series is helmed by Nick Wooton (The Endgame) and Charmaine DeGraté (House of the Dragon), while two others are being handled by Joe Henderson (Lucifer) and Ingrid Escajeda (Griselda). The breadth of the lineup suggests Universal intends to mine every corner of the franchise’s lore rather than rely on a single continuation.

The Final Film Arrives in 2028
While the television expansion signals that the world is not ending soon, the theatrical saga certainly is. The eleventh film, titled Fast Forever, is scheduled to release on March 17, 2028, marking the end of the core road family storyline.
Diesel discussed the production details at Fuel Fest in June, revealing how he negotiated with Universal Pictures to bring the finale back to Los Angeles. “The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of Fast and Furious [in] April 2027?’ He recalled. “I said, ‘Under three conditions.’ First, is to bring the franchise back to L.A.! The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing! The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner.”
The mention of reuniting Dominic Toretto with Brian O’Conner has sparked speculation among fans, particularly because that character was portrayed by the late Paul Walker, who died in 2013. Walker’s brother has reportedly opposed using digital means to recreate his sibling for Fast Forever, instead suggesting that AI could be used to bring him back to the franchise rather than a physical performance.
Looking Ahead
Fans now have two major milestones on the horizon. The Peacock series is set to premiere in 2028, while Fast Forever arrives just months earlier on March 17 of that year, closing out the theatrical franchise.
With four shows already in development and Diesel attached as executive producer across the expansion, Universal appears confident that the road family’s appeal will endure well beyond its final feature film. Details regarding casting, plot, and specific release dates for the individual series have yet to be announced.
