The game’s visual presentation has drawn widespread acclaim since release, with everything from the hovering Hiss entities to the crimson-tinted atmosphere of dangerous zones earning praise as virtual photography material. Yet despite those qualities, no photo mode accompanied the title’s launch, a decision Remedy attributed to development priorities that have now left PC and console players in markedly different positions.

A Community-Driven Solution for PC Players

On Nexus Mods, user Kkyleeb21 has released a comprehensive toolset designed to capture the perfect shot. When activated, the mod switches the game engine into its built-in free camera mode and freezes time entirely, allowing players to compose scenes without interference from enemies or environmental hazards.

The resulting experience closely mirrors the photo mode found in Remedy’s own Alan Wake 2. Players can toggle between presets, adjust exposure and depth of field, crop their images, and apply one of six filters to achieve the desired aesthetic. This breadth of options makes it a genuinely capable tool rather than a mere workaround.

Console Players Face a Longer Wait

Xbox Series X|S and PS5 owners will not enjoy equivalent capabilities until November. In a recent blog post, Remedy explained that it chose to prioritize the stability and quality of the base game before introducing additional features like photography tools.

“The Photo Mode for Control Resonant is something we’ve been cooking for a while,” Remedy wrote. “We even consulted some talented virtual photographers from the community to help us make it the best it can be. The reason Photo Mode didn’t release on launch is because we needed to prioritize making sure the game was in the best possible shape. We’ve seen gorgeous virtual photographs you’ve already taken – but once the Photo Mode releases, you can really go to town. We expect to release Photo Mode sometime in November.”

The studio acknowledged that players have already produced impressive images using workarounds, signaling genuine enthusiasm for the photography community forming around the title.

A Broader Update Lands Simultaneously

Beyond the photo mode conversation, Remedy has also pushed a substantial new update to life. The patch, which new patch builds on recent gameplay balance adjustments, brings numerous bug fixes, added polish, and several quality-of-life improvements across the board.

The most notable addition is an enhanced New Game++ mode, allowing players to undertake an infinite number of runs through Control Resonant. This extends replayability well beyond the standard New Game+ offering and rewards those who wish to revisit Altered World Events with escalating challenge.

Additional changes include a Build Power number displayed directly on the Loadout screen, removing the need to dig through the Stats & Effects menu to check power levels. The HUD now features a notification icon highlighting purchasable or upgradeable items in The Gap, while pinning materials for upgrades will reveal whether vendors stock them via the map.

The update also addresses combat difficulty and accessibility concerns. Unknown Zone intensity has been reduced by 10% to 15%, a new tutorial covers the Rush ability’s status-effect removal, and an Assist Mode option introduces a 100% to 300% Power Core Charge duration multiplier for players seeking additional support.

Audio customization received attention as well, with a dedicated radio dialogue slider enabling finer balance between standard speakers or headphones and the DualSense controller. Remedy also added a “Mute copyrighted music” option, allowing players to silence Apocalyptica’s “Upperhand” intro credits track if desired.

Technical refinements targeted PC performance across minimum and recommended specifications, fixed a framerate drop during the Artist Resonant fight, corrected over-saturated HDR highlights in the AgX tonemapper, and resolved numerous subtitle and voice acting issues. Support for Razer haptics was also introduced, triggering effects on compatible peripherals during melee attacks, taking damage, and other gameplay events.

Looking Ahead

With the official photo mode slated for November and console players now aware of the PC modding alternative, Remedy appears well-positioned to satisfy the photography community that has already begun flourishing around Control Resonant. Until then, PC owners can explore their creative side immediately, while everyone else waits for the studio’s promised update to arrive.
