Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss announced today that it is pushing back the release of Charting the Unknown, the game’s first post-launch add-on, by two weeks. Previously scheduled for 15 October, the DLC will now launch on 29 October, with the studio citing the need for additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable experience.
The confirmation arrives shortly after the add-on’s first public reveal, meaning players who had pencilled in the original date will now need to adjust their plans. Pearl Abyss said it would use the extra fortnight to refine the content before it goes live across supported platforms.
A delayed first expansion
Charting the Unknown was originally set to arrive on 15 October, but Pearl Abyss has moved that date forward to 29 October. In a statement accompanying the announcement, the developer explained the reasoning behind the shift.
“We are hard at work on Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown to bring you new adventures to Pywel. However, we have determined that we need additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience,” the developer said in a note posted on X.
The reveal itself came as a surprise to many. Charting the Unknown was surprisingly announced early last month during a Sony State of Play presentation. Although we’d known Pearl Abyss was working on some sort of add-on for some time, September’s reveal was the first confirmation of it, and our first look at it.
New lands, ships, and underwater exploration
The add-on brings new destinations to the continent of Pywel, chiefly allowing players to explore the ocean through ships and underwater adventures. The journey will take players to new islands off the coast of Pywel, where new stories featuring protagonists Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane will unfold.

Beyond the new narrative content, the expansion introduces a range of systems. The add-on also includes new features such as an upgraded house-building mechanic, the ability to manage and rent facilities to earn cash, and a system that lets you grow your bonds with NPCs.

These additions signal a broadening of the game’s sandbox, extending the life of Crimson Desert well beyond its base release and giving returning players fresh reasons to head back to Pywel.
“We know many of you have been looking forward to returning to the game and we sincerely apologise for the longer wait. We will use the additional time to further refine the content and do our utmost to deliver the best experience we can.”

Pricing and platform availability
Charting the Unknown is priced £19.99 / $24.99. It’s available for all versions of the game, except for the Mac App Store version. The pricing positions the expansion as a substantial content package rather than a minor add-on, reflecting the scope of the new ships, underwater areas, and systems included.
Looking Ahead
Pearl Abyss has set 29 October as the new release date for Charting the Unknown, giving the team roughly two weeks to refine the content before it goes live. The studio has committed to using the additional time to polish the experience, and players can expect the expansion to arrive across all supported versions of the game apart from the Mac App Store build.
As the countdown to the new launch date begins, attention now turns to how the studio’s extra development time translates into the final product, with fans eager to set sail across the newly opened waters of Pywel.
