Coinbase, the San Francisco-based cryptocurrency exchange, is moving to claim a slice of the booming trading card game market with its own digital pack-opening platform built around the Pokémon TCG. The reveal came in a tweet posted September 28 that teased a service allowing users to open digital packs from their phones, with every pull backed by a physical card that can be locked away in a digital vault or shipped directly to collectors.

“Your binder is about to get a major upgrade,” Coinbase wrote in the post. “Rip packs on your phone. Every pull backed by a real, physical card. Vault it or ship it. Soon on Coinbase.” While the text deliberately avoided naming Pokémon, the accompanying image displayed mockups of five card packs clearly labeled “Pokémon” and numbered one through five, signaling the franchise at the center of the launch.

When one user declared that “Pokémon packs on the chain, trading cards just hit peak convenience,” Coinbase replied with a simple “You get it.” Another commenter predicted that “Coinbase is going to partner with and onboard everything on earth,” to which the company responded, “Well, we are the Everything Exchange.”
