Following a wave of layoffs and studio reshuffling at Xbox earlier this week, Mojang took the stage at Minecraft Live in September 2026 to deliver a batch of announcements that would reshape the sandbox giant’s future. While fans hoping for a look at the next film left without one, the studio’s most significant reveal was a game-changing addition to the franchise: the Sift dimension from Minecraft Dungeons 2 is set to arrive in the survival crafting game next year, marking the first time a new dimension has been added to Minecraft since it launched at 1.0 in 2011.
Mojang gave audiences a first look at the Sift during the showcase and confirmed it will be introduced to both Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition in 2027. Before then, the dimension will play a central role in Minecraft Dungeons 2, a Diablo-like action-RPG spin-off scheduled to launch on September 29. From the spin-off’s segment of Minecraft Live, the Sift reads as an ethereal, spirit-world-like realm — a stark departure from the familiar terrain players have explored for over a decade. The reveal signals a shift in Mojang’s creative direction, bringing a more narrative-driven, atmospheric experience into the sandbox that has defined the franchise for more than 15 years. By seeding the Sift in the spin-off first, Mojang is effectively testing the waters before rolling out the full dimension to the main game.
