After 30 Hours of 1440p Bloodborne, One Fan Swears the FromSoftware Classic Belongs on PC

September 24, 2026 · Gamer24H Editorial Team

A self-described PC purist who has spent roughly 30 hours playing FromSoftware’s Bloodborne at 1440p through emulation says the acclaimed 2015 action RPG deserves a proper PC release, even as Sony has largely abandoned the platform. The writer, who has long resented playing the game on PlayStation hardware, took matters into his own hands using the shadPS4 emulator and a third-party launcher to run the title on Windows, arguing that the experience has improved on PC and that the game’s unique combat and storytelling reward the platform. In a candid account shared with Gamer24h, the player laid out both the joys and the frustrations of emulating one of the most beloved FromSoftware titles outside of official channels.

After mainlining 30 hours of 1440p Bloodborne, I know in my heart it belongs on PC

“You can force it, but it shouldn’t be so unapproachable,” the author wrote, framing the piece as both a personal confession and a broader critique of how the game is distributed. Bloodborne is one of his favorite games of all time, and he noted it is the only FromSoftware title he has spent a significant amount of time on the Sony PlayStation 4. “I resent that. I hate that horrible little box under my TV with a passion. I think it’s only good for watching Gilmore Girls — I don’t like playing videogames on it. I am a PC man through and through.”

The technical path to his goal runs through the shadPS4 emulator and a companion launcher, following guidance from a YouTuber. The author also praised Sekiro, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6 as all-time favorites, crediting them with demonstrating FromSoftware’s continued willingness to experiment. He stopped short of declaring Bloodborne a studio peak, insisting its best days are not behind it, but acknowledged that nothing else out there replicates its particular magic.

Hardware Implications: What Rig Do You Actually Need?

While emulation has been better than the original console experience for some time, the author admits it remains “slightly janky,” comparing the hitches and glitches to playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on an unpatched, multiplatform Unreal Engine 5 triple-A port. The practical upshot is that players need a beefier rig than for other PS4-era titles, and there are no official minimum or recommended specifications anywhere online.

He has been surprised by the modest GPUs people report running Bloodborne on, citing one Reddit commenter who claimed it was playable on a GTX 1650. The author, however, does not have a way of testing those claims. His own wager is that the RTX 3070 — or an equivalent card — is roughly the point where players could start expecting reliable 1080p 60fps gameplay. FromSoftware itself demonstrated 4k 60fps on an RTX 4080 earlier this year, while the writer reported a pleasant experience at 1440p 60 on an RX 9070 XT from AMD.

One glitch has particularly annoyed him. He has encountered two “loading zones” — the entrance to Yharnam’s Grand Cathedral and the elevator depot shortcut in the Forbidden Woods — where, seven out of 10 times, stepping through a doorway turns his field of view into a neon nightmare until he quits and reloads. He has tried nearly everything to troubleshoot: tweaking resolution, VRAM use, shadPS4 versions, lighting settings, FSR use, and the gamut. The only remaining option is a full reinstall, which he does not feel is worth the effort for what he now accepts as a quirky old friend, like having to slam the dashboard of an old car just so it will run.

A Story Worth the Effort

Beyond the technicalities, the author found plenty to love in the game’s substance. He described the atmosphere and aesthetics of Yharnam as striking and odd, likening it to Nosferatu and Lovecraft “chopped and screwed into black metal album art.” The Healing Church and Byrgenwerth are simultaneously ancient and right there, with Master Willem still chilling in a rocking chair on his front porch. He read the narrative as a tale of a world regressing from science and study into religious dogmatism, clad in modernity the entire time.

Tuning into a recent episode about Bloodborne, he encountered a reading he had never heard before: that the game is fundamentally about motherhood and mothers, and men ruining the world by doing terrible things to them. “It seems so obvious to me now,” he wrote. Kos and her orphan, Queen Yharnam and her child Mergo — the crimes committed against these mothers are the inciting events of the story. He also praised the combat, noting that fighting Ludwig the Accursed taxed him like little else he had played recently. While it is the smallest arsenal in the post-Demon’s Souls FromSoftware catalogue, every weapon is fully distinct, and he personally identified as a “Blade/Chalice man.”

Looking Ahead

The author has always refused to pay Sony to use the internet he already pays for, so he never interacted with Bloodborne’s online-only procedurally generated dungeons. The PC BB Launcher can force-add procgen dungeons to a save file and ships with a library of popular ones for loot and experience farming. He did not realize there was a whole sequence of story-based, set Chalice dungeons to explore until now — a system he called possibly FromSoftware’s least intuitive, most poorly explained in any of its games.

He got hooked on some of the more difficult dungeons and has grinded out the most powerful character he has yet made in Bloodborne. He worries the final story areas may feel a little too easy with all these extra levels, but he is content: “At least it’s more Bloodborne.”

Ultimately, the writer concluded that you can play Bloodborne on PC right now and that he recommends the experience. He acknowledged it is a difficult ask for a layman, and accessing the game files of a legally purchased copy is the biggest hurdle in the process. “Playing Bloodborne at acceptable framerates and resolutions on a modern system should not be so needlessly challenging and potentially DMCA-infringing,” he wrote, noting that Sony has largely turned its back on PC gaming after a brief early-2020s dalliance and recently cut a deal for no good reason. While that has spared players from anything like the Demon’s Souls Remake being inflicted on Bloodborne, the commonsense, light-touch PC port the game should have received over the last decade has never felt further away — even though Hideo Miyazaki himself told us it was coming.
