Starbucks Japan Unveils Massive 41-Piece Pokémon Collaboration Featuring Pikachu Latte

September 24, 2026 · Gamer24H Editorial Team

Starbucks Japan has officially revealed a large-scale Pokémon collaboration set to launch across its stores later this month, pairing the coffee giant with the beloved franchise for a Pikachu-themed Honey Cream Latte and a 41-piece merchandise collection. The partnership, which arrives in the wake of Pokémon’s ongoing 30th anniversary collaborations with brands ranging from Adidas to Krispy Kreme, will debut on September 30 and will feature more than 40 new products spanning tumblers, mugs, aprons, totes, and gift cards. While the signature drink will be available only in person, select merchandise will also be offered through the Starbucks Japan online store.

The centerpiece of the campaign is the Pikachu Honey Cream Latte, a recipe that was chosen through a nationwide barista competition that attracted more than 700 submissions. The winning formula was submitted by Junko Nitta of Starbucks Coffee Koriyama Asaka, and the drink is flavored with a blend of honey and caramel while being colored to match the electric Pokémon’s iconic yellow hue. A honey-flavored whipped cream crowns the beverage, with red heart sprinkles designed to mimic Pikachu’s rosy cheeks.

A Latte Born from a Nationwide Barista Battle

The drink will be available exclusively in a Tall size, retailing for around 690 yen (approximately US $4.34). Reports suggest the limited-time offering may have a brief window, potentially running only from September 30 to October 8. The Pikachu Honey Cream Latte is a fittingly nostalgic nod to the franchise’s mascot, whose yellow color and cheeky charm have made it one of the most recognizable faces in gaming history.

Even Pokémon need caffeine, I suppose.

The campaign’s visual identity was crafted by illustrator Hikaru Ichijo, who delivered 12 new illustrations depicting popular Pokémon sharing pleasant moments and building friendships with their baristas. The featured creatures lean heavily toward the fan favorites, with most designs showcasing Pikachu, Eevee, or one of the original Generation 1 starters—Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. The artwork is grounded in a series of short “stories” printed across several designs, including phrases such as “Our adventure starts with a cup of coffee” and “Crafting wonders with you.”

For those unable to visit a physical location, Starbucks Japan will also be releasing a line of tumblers, totes, aprons, and new gift cards as part of the broader collection. The 41-piece assortment will be split between online and in-store exclusives, though the company has reportedly taken precautions given the intense demand surrounding Pokémon merchandise.

Scalping Concerns and a Tight Release Window

Given the ongoing stock and scalping concerns that have plagued the Pokémon community across all things related to the franchise, Starbucks will reportedly be limiting transactions for the first couple of days of the release. This move is designed to curb resellers from exploiting the high demand for the limited-edition goods, ensuring that collectors and casual fans alike have a fair chance at securing items.

Starbucks Japan Is Getting a Massive Pokémon Collab

It is worth noting that the Pikachu Honey Cream Latte will only be available in person, while select merch will also be offered through the Starbucks JP online store. Unfortunately, there is currently no word on whether the collaboration will be available outside of Japan, leaving international fans to speculate about a potential global expansion.

Looking Ahead

Starbucks is no stranger to collaborations, and North American stores will soon be receiving their own limited-edition collection themed after the Peanuts franchise. However, the coffee shop giant is also navigating some significant internal changes, having announced that it will be closing 250 stores across North America by the end of the week as part of the company’s ongoing “Back to Starbucks” turnaround strategy.

For now, fans in Japan can look forward to a sweet, caffeinated celebration of one of gaming’s most enduring franchises. Whether the Pikachu Honey Cream Latte becomes a cult favorite or a fleeting seasonal treat remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the next great Pokémon collaboration is already brewing.
