Control Resonant, Remedy Entertainment’s newest chapter in the Control saga, has gone live with a fresh patch that makes its parautilitarian protagonist Dylan considerably stronger — even though he’s only just emerged from a coma. Hotfix 1.3.3, delivered in tandem with the game’s official launch, focuses on trimming enemy health pools and boosting Dylan’s overall combat power, so players can expect to bring foes down with greater ease once the update is applied.
At the heart of the change is the “Falter” status effect, which is central to the game’s core combat loop. Applying Falter to an enemy such as Hiss sets them up for an instant-kill finisher, and the patch reduces both the base health of enemies and the Falter level required to trigger the effect. To complement that, Remedy has raised Aberrant strength and the maximum Ability strength available to players, ensuring the tuning feels rewarding rather than merely lenient. The studio shared screenshots showing the updated combat flow, which highlight how much smoother the mechanic feels once the patch is applied.
Tuning the Buildcrafting Loop
Beyond raw combat numbers, the studio is also nudging players toward experimentation. Remedy says it wants to encourage buildcrafting and experimentation, so it has permanently lowered the cost of respeccing and increased the stock of Reset Items across every vendor in the game. The first Resonant boss encounter, The Artist, will now drop two Reset Items instead of one, giving players a steadier supply of the currency needed to reshape Dylan’s abilities.
“We strongly believe these changes will improve the gameplay feel and flow while still providing a challenge.” Remedy added that, depending on player progression, enemies can feel too tanky during the early hours of the game.
Remedy Entertainment
For those who prefer to focus on the narrative rather than the combat, the update arrives alongside the game’s Assist Mode, which lets players toggle a range of gameplay options. Dylan can be made immortal and capable of one-hit kills, effectively turning Control Resonant into a story-focused experience for anyone who wants to explore the game’s focus primarily on the story without the pressure of a brutal difficulty curve — ideal for players who simply want to lose themselves in the delightfully weird world of Control Resonant.
Looking Ahead
The patch also includes a handful of English-language UI tweaks designed to better explain Build Power and Aberrant Strength. These clarifications are currently limited to English, though Remedy has indicated the adjustments will roll out to other languages in due course. Full details of the changes are available in the hotfix notes.
The reception to the launch has been broadly positive, with critics praising both the visual polish and the narrative. Mark Delaney, writing for GameSpot’s Control Resonant review, noted that the title’s gameplay loop feels more mainstream than anything the team has produced since Max Payne, sitting alongside stellar art direction and a surprisingly touching story.
With the hotfix now live, players who have been struggling against the game’s early encounters should find the experience noticeably smoother, while those chasing a challenge can simply leave the patch’s tuning in place and lean into the deeper systems Remedy has built into the loop.
