Owlcat Games is set to close out the roguelite CRPG Rogue Trader with its third and final expansion, Processional of the Damned, this December. Like the studio’s previous downloadable content, the new chapter will weave a fresh storyline and a brand-new companion directly into the game’s existing narrative rather than tacking on as an epilogue. For players who have already journeyed alongside a psychotic alien bent on murder, a blood-obsessed assassin, and the comic-book enforcer Judge Dredd, the addition of a volatile new psyker named Stella may feel like the most unhinged recruit of them all.

A Companion Built From Peril and Madness
Stella arrives with a dossier of warning signs that would make any party leader pause. The promotional material flags her tears of blood, unstable powers, a possible heretical nature, the ominous declaration that “she will never truly be free from peril and madness”, and the chilling label of a living weapon. Yet, according to the studio, these traits are precisely what make her a compelling fit for the roster. When your crew already includes a rogue alien who attempted to kill you, another unsanctioned psyker prone to losing control, and a relentless assassin, Stella’s volatility is hardly unprecedented.
Alongside Stella, Processional of the Damned introduces the Zealot archetype, a new character class built around the brutal satisfaction of bludgeoning enemies to death. Owlcat has also teased a sweeping new mechanic called “madness”, a system that will ripple across every companion in your party—though the studio has made clear it is unlikely to be a positive influence. In addition to the new companion, class, and chaos mechanic, the expansion will deliver a fresh set of enemies and gear to keep the campaign’s later stages unpredictable.
Why This Expansion Matters
After a rocky launch, Rogue Trader has matured into one of Owlcat Games’ most acclaimed titles, earning praise for its dense, systems-driven storytelling and rewarding replayability. Processional of the Damned represents the studio’s deliberate choice to end the expansion cycle on a high note, delivering a self-contained narrative arc that resolves the game’s ongoing threads rather than leaving players hanging.
Looking Ahead
While Processional of the Damned has a confirmed December release window, Owlcat has not yet pinned down an exact date, signaling that the final expansion is “coming soon.” Beyond this concluding chapter, the studio has hinted at another expansion on the horizon, promising yet more content for the faithful.
Perhaps more exciting for the broader fanbase is Owlcat’s next major project, which the developer describes as fundamentally different from its previous RPGs. While details remain scarce, the project is generating considerable anticipation, with many in the community hoping it carries the same creative ambition that made Rogue Trader a standout. As the expansion cycle winds down, players are left with a clear message: this is a fitting finale, and the studio’s appetite for innovation is only just beginning.
