The comment traces back to a late July episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where Feige discussed his excitement over having Snipes reprise the role of Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine — a moment of optimism that stood in stark contrast to his earlier, unsuccessful attempts to launch Ali’s version of the character. On the podcast, Feige reportedly described the Blade reboot as “the biggest failure of his career,” a sentiment that Ali has now adopted as his own.

A Question for the Marvel Machine

When Baron asked Ali why the film never moved forward, the actor offered a pointed response that shifted the blame squarely onto the studio. “That’s a Kevin Feige question,” Ali said. “They had, as you said, a two-time Oscar-winning actor under contract, and you got billions of dollars. …To this day, I don’t know why it didn’t happen. I just know that Kevin said it was the biggest failure of his career, and I agree.”

Baron then floated the specific wording, suggesting the quote was: “I feel like a giant loser and a failure.” Ali did not hesitate. “I agree with him, one hundred percent. He should feel that way,” he continued, his tone carrying the weight of someone who had poured his life into a project that ultimately stalled.

The actor’s willingness to speak so openly about the project’s collapse is itself a striking development. In the same interview, Ali freely admitted that he had spent a full year of his life in physical training to convincingly portray Marvel’s Daywalker, working out so intensely that he literally blew out his knee in the process.

“I was waiting for them… [they were] pushing it back, pushing it back. I’m still training, I’m learning swordwork. Name a martial art, I’m training in it. I literally moved, uprooted my family, moved to Atlanta. We were there waiting to go, and they just kept pushing it back,” Ali explained, painting a vivid picture of the personal toll the delay took on him and his household.

Ali first met with Marvel all the way back in 2019. It has now been seven years since that initial meeting, and despite having a story greenlit and costumes made, the film never came to fruition. Some of those costumes were later repurposed for the Academy Award–winning movie Sinners, while Ali noted that much of the combat training he underwent while preparing for Blade found new life in his newest film, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.
