Rockstar Games has kicked off its Miami marketing blitz for Grand Theft Auto 6 by hoisting a giant “Welcome to Vice City” sign onto the roof of the Kaseya Center, spending just shy of $1 million to turn the city into a real-life preview of the game’s setting. The towering banner was lifted into place by helicopter earlier today and is now permanently affixed to the arena, where fans and anyone flying overhead can catch a greeting from the studio itself. The move comes as GTA 6 approaches its November 19 launch date, and it marks the first major physical installation of the game’s promotional campaign in the city that will serve as its fictional home.
The sign’s construction has been under watch for several days, and it was finally secured to the top of the arena this afternoon. Anyone passing over the venue now has a front-row seat to Rockstar’s own message. According to Miami Herald journalist Doug Hanks, the studio paid nearly $1 million for the installation, with Miami-Dade County expected to collect $975,000 from Rockstar as part of a marketing agreement. While the “Welcome to Vice City” banner is the most visible piece of the effort so far, the full scope of Rockstar’s plans for the city remains unclear. Earlier this year, the studio held extensive conversations with Miami officials that reportedly included pitches for a range of events, including a takeover of the airport, though it is not yet known which of those ideas will move forward.
A City That Had to Give Its Blessing
The campaign did not come without friction. Miami has a complicated relationship with the brand, given that GTA 6 centers on crime and lets players target police officers and civilians. The city was involved in a somewhat contentious debate over whether it should play any role in promoting a game built around those themes. In the end, however, the city ruled in favor of the campaign, paving the way for Rockstar to lean into the real-world connection.

The Kaseya Center is also the home of the NBA’s Miami Heat, which opens its regular season on October 21. There is a strong chance Rockstar will leverage the broadcast to promote the game, and it would not be surprising to see the arena’s new signage featured in the opening shot. If a trailer or other marketing material debuts around the game, the timing would be ideal: by then, GTA 6 will be just under a month from launch, and television spots are likely to begin pushing the release date to broaden its mainstream appeal.
Documents Reveal the Sign’s Lifespan and a Possible October 15 Beat
Per documents reviewed by IGN, the banner will remain atop the arena for either the latter of one year after installation or until the final home game of the Miami Heat’s 26-27 season, which is scheduled for April 11, 2027. That suggests the signage will be visible through much of 2026 and possibly into the spring. The same documents indicate the sign carried an installation deadline of October 15, or Rockstar could have terminated the agreement. Given that October 15 falls on a Thursday, and Rockstar has historically used Thursdays for game-related news, the date could well become another marketing milestone for the title.
As the physical takeover takes shape, the digital campaign continues to build momentum. The game is slated to release on November 19 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, and Rockstar’s promotional efforts are expected to intensify in the weeks leading up to launch.
Looking Ahead
With the “Welcome to Vice City” sign now firmly in place, Rockstar has signaled that its Miami campaign is well underway, even as the full extent of the plan remains to be revealed. Whether the studio will debut new trailers around the Miami Heat’s season opener, pursue the airport takeover pitch, or unveil additional installations throughout 2026 are open questions. For now, the arena roof stands as a bold, real-world nod to the fictional city that will soon be the setting for one of the most anticipated games of the year.
