Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave’s Paralogues Run on Brutal, Missable Deadlines

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave players who want to complete the game’s optional paralogues face a narrow window of opportunity: each side quest operates on a strict in-game calendar, and several deadlines are so tight that missing them triggers a game over. Released by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo, the strategy RPG turns its most rewarding optional content into a race against the clock, rewarding completionists with 20,000 gold each and the chance to recruit key characters for the endgame.
Paralogues are the optional quests that let players pull specific plot-important characters into their roster for Part 3 without committing to a full playthrough of every route. For those who don’t have the time or desire to clear multiple paths, they offer a shortcut to the three additional Flame Lords, though that benefit comes with meaningful trade-offs. Polygon’s guide breaks down exactly when each paralogue is available and how the timing affects which characters ultimately join your party.
Who Joins, and How
The payoff for finishing a paralogue depends heavily on whose path you’re playing. Completing the paralogues of Leda, Dietrich, Cai, or Theodora brings those characters into Part 3 as guests only — you retain no control over their class, leveling, or inventory. By contrast, clearing the paralogues of Talimun, Orchel, Bertrand, or Anatolia earns them full-fledged membership, with classes you can freely adjust.
Paralogues reward you with 20,000 gold each, so if you’ve spent all your gold bribing people with food and gift items, they’re a solid way to get some cash back in your pocket.

There’s also flexibility in how you approach them: you only need to complete a character’s paralogue on one Flame Lord’s path. Clear the route and the War Arc as that Flame Lord, and the character will appear in Part 3 regardless of which path you later choose. For instance, finishing Cai’s paralogue while playing as Leda means you can skip it entirely when you switch to Dietrich’s route — the only cost is forfeiting the gold.
When the Clock Runs Out
Not every paralogue is available on every route, and availability is tied to story progression. On Cai’s route, certain problems resolve through alternative solutions that don’t require direct paralogue intervention — a boon for the story, but a headache for players who want Cai in their endgame party. Dietrich is the exception, able to host every paralogue except his own.
Dietrich’s route carries the most punishing constraint. Bertrand’s paralogue is available for just one day — 9/17 at 9 p.m. — leaving players a mere five turns before the main story deadline. Missing it triggers a game over screen, so players must finish all preparation and be ready to exit via Mars’ Gate of the Gods before attempting it. That same paralogue is also the only way to recruit Peppe in Dietrich’s route and the only way to get Gaitz, as the latter isn’t recruitable on any other path.

Theodora presents another wrinkle. While the game lists certain quest end dates past 10/24, her final chapter actually concludes on 10/24, meaning players must finish all paralogues, preparation, and outstanding subquests before that date.
Looking Ahead
Players weighing whether to invest in paralogues should consider four factors: whether they want a specific character in Part 3 without committing to their full route, whether they want to explore extra maps and objectives, whether they need the gold, and whether they want the partner characters tied to each paralogue — such as Ursula, who becomes recruitable after clearing Talimun’s paralogue, or Sha Lan after Anatolia’s. Those who have already completed paralogues on other routes, or who simply dislike a character and never want to see them again, can safely skip them.
For newcomers navigating the game’s branching paths, Polygon has published additional guides on which character to pick first, how to change heroes, and whether to play in casual
