September is shaping up to be a blockbuster month for gaming, and we’ve been lucky enough to get early access to some of the biggest releases. From superhero action to spooky horror, here’s our first look at six games you won’t want to miss.

Marvel’s Wolverine: A New Direction for Insomniac?

6 Big September Games We've Already Played if You Want to Know What We Think of Them So Far
Marvel’s Wolverine aims for a more linear experience while retaining the studio’s signature polish.

Insomniac Games has consistently delivered exceptional superhero experiences, and Marvel’s Wolverine promises to be no different. While departing from the open-world formula of previous titles, this game retains the studio’s commitment to quality. After playing two and a half hours, I was impressed by the tight gameplay and compelling narrative. However, some questions remain about how this more linear approach will impact the overall experience. Read our full Marvel’s Wolverine preview.

Control: Resonant – Remedy Delivers More of What We Love

Remedy Entertainment is known for its unparalleled world-building and consistently surprising level design, and Control: Resonant delivers more of what makes their games so special. After an exclusive two-hour demo, I can confidently say that this expansion builds upon the foundation laid by the original game in exciting ways. Read our full Control: Resonant preview.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave – A Return to Form for a Beloved Series

After seven years, the world of Fire Emblem: Three Houses is returning with Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. While retaining the core structure that made its predecessor so popular, Intelligent Systems is also building upon those foundations with some exciting new features. Even after just a few chapters, I’m already finding several additions that I love, and one that might not be quite as appealing. Read our full Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave preview.

Silent Hill: Townfall – A Promising Return to Horror

The fog-laden towns, cryptic puzzles, and underlying trauma that define the Silent Hill series are all present in Townfall. After three hours of hands-on time, I can say that this game captures the essence of what makes Silent Hill so terrifying. The first-person perspective adds a new level of intimacy to the experience, making it even more immersive. This has the potential to be something truly special. Read our full Silent Hill: Townfall preview.

Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush – Unleashing the Fun

Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush embraces the freedom of open-world racing in a way that perfectly complements the toy-car aesthetic. The Burnout Paradise-style gameplay is both exhilarating and surprisingly charming. Milestone has created a living, breathing toy box that’s just begging to be explored. Read our full Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush preview.

Garfield: Escape from Monday – A Comforting Return for the Lovable Slacker

Capturing the essence of Garfield is no easy feat, but Escape from Monday seems poised to deliver a worthy addition to the slacker cat’s repertoire. While the structure and formula are familiar, this approach allows the game to recapture the charm of classic 3D platformers. With its snappy platforming action and a cool hook that showcases Garfield in a fun and exciting way, it might not reinvent the genre, but sometimes comfort food is exactly what you need. Just as long as it’s not healthy vegetable lasagna on a Monday morning.
