Get ready to warp into a brand new universe! After what feels like an eternity of waiting, Archetype Entertainment has finally unveiled the release date for “Exodus,” the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG poised to become the next big thing in space exploration. Mark your calendars: April 7, 2027!

A Universe Forged in Time
“Exodus” arrives at a crucial moment, stepping into the void left by the long absence of “Mass Effect.” This third-person action RPG promises to deliver that heady mix of compelling characters, branching narratives, and mind-bending sci-fi concepts we’ve all been craving. The game throws us 40,000 years into the future, where humanity has abandoned a dying Earth for a cluster of habitable star systems light years away.

But here’s the kicker: different arkships arrive at vastly different timescales. Those that arrived first spent millennia tinkering with genetic modifications, achieving a level of transhumanism and calling themselves Celestials. The consequences of time dilation are central to the game’s narrative, creating a fascinating and complex universe.

And then there are the Awakened – Earth animals like wolves, frogs, and bears who have been augmented with technology, granting them heightened consciousness and the ability to speak. Tuesday’s Gamescom trailer offered an in-depth look at one of these incredible creatures: Salt, the Awakened octopus.

Salt isn’t just a cool character; she’s a key member of protagonist Jun Aslan’s party. She pilots a custom mech suit built around a portable aquarium and brings an unstoppable ferocity to every battle, reminiscent of a Krogan warrior. But Salt is more than just a killing machine; the trailer showcased her calm and intelligent personality through compelling dialogue.

The trailer also delved into the emotional impact of time dilation, showing Salt returning to a former aquatic world that has transformed into a desert landscape. This poignant scene highlights the sacrifices made by those who traveled through time and the profound sense of loss they carry.

Salt is one of five confirmed combat party members in “Exodus.” Joining Jun are Tom Vargas, a fellow Traveler who has sacrificed his personal life for relativistic travel; Elise Charroux, a human mercenary piloting her own non-octopus mech suit; Phaedra Nath, a blind archaeologist who uses drones to perceive the world; and Suliman, a mysterious figure about whom Archetype Entertainment has yet to reveal much beyond a name and a screenshot.

“Exodus” is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X in April 2027. Get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey through time and space!
