Crimson Desert’s upcoming DLC decides it’s The Sims now, I guess

[Get ready to build your dream castle in Crimson Desert!]

Hold onto your helmets, folks! Pearl Abyss is about to throw another curveball into the already sprawling universe of Crimson Desert. The upcoming Charting the Unknown DLC promises a whole new level of depth and customization, and it looks like we’re not just talking about new weapons or skills. We’re talking full-blown castle building…a la The Sims!

Charting Your Own Destiny: Castle Building & Village Life

[Build your dream castle and populate it with villagers in Charting the Unknown.]

The recent State of Play reveal showcased a trailer packed with features, and one element stood out like a sore thumb (or perhaps a beautifully crafted stone gargoyle): the ability to construct and customize castles. We’re talking about dragging and dropping walls, placing furniture, and creating your own unique living space within those imposing structures. The trailer even showed Kliff, our resident rogue, displaying a framed portrait of a tiger outside his home – a touch of Sims-esque flair that we can’t ignore.

But the fun doesn’t stop at the castle walls. It appears you’ll also be able to build and manage a village around your fortress, complete with cooking fires, market stalls, and bustling villagers. While it might share some similarities to the Greymanes camp from the main game, the level of detail and customization promises a much richer and more immersive experience.

Romance is in the Air (Maybe?)

[Kliff offers flowers to a witch, hinting at potential romance options.]

One intriguing detail that caught my eye was Kliff’s apparent ability to woo other characters. We saw him offering flowers to one of the game’s witches, who seemed quite pleased with the gesture. Whether this translates into actual romance mechanics or simply adds a touch of personality remains to be seen. Given Kliff’s limited dialogue options, I’m curious to see how these interactions will unfold.

A Whirlwind of Features: Sharks, Steampunk Ships, and Mechanical Cyclops!

[Explore underwater with sharks and discover steampunk-inspired ships.]

Beyond the castle building and potential romance, Charting the Unknown is packed with other exciting features. We’re talking about running on water, underwater traversal (including hitching a ride on a shark!), both traditional and steampunk-inspired ships, fellow Greymane Andrew showing off his culinary skills in the castle, and…a mechanical cyclops monster with laser eyes? Seriously?

Release Date Surprise!

[Get ready for Charting the Unknown to release this October!]

And here’s the kicker: Charting the Unknown is set to release on October 15th. That’s just seven months after the initial launch, and in that time, Pearl Abyss has implemented a dizzying number of patches and tweaks that have transformed Crimson Desert into something almost unrecognizable from my original review back in March. How they managed to cram all this new content into such a short timeframe is truly remarkable.

Despite the whirlwind of changes, I’m genuinely excited about the prospect of diving into the castle-building aspects of Charting the Unknown. I’ll definitely be returning to Pywel before long to see what kind of architectural masterpiece I can create. Get ready to unleash your inner architect!
