GTA 6 Ditches Iconic Sprint Button, No Rest for the Wicked Delayed

For a quarter-century, Grand Theft Auto players have tapped face buttons to sprint. It was an iconic control scheme, instantly recognizable and deeply ingrained in the GTA experience. But Rockstar Games is shaking things up with GTA 6, ditching that familiar input method in favor of a more modern approach.

GTA 6: L3 for Sprint

Rockstar recently showcased GTA 6 to select media outlets and content creators, offering a glimpse into the game’s driving mechanics, character relationships, and expansive open world. While many details have emerged, one seemingly minor change has sparked considerable discussion: the sprint button. According to YouTuber MikeShowSha, who attended the showcase, sprinting in GTA 6 will now be controlled by clicking the left stick (L3) on the controller.

This move aligns GTA 6 with the control schemes prevalent in most modern shooters. In these games, a simple click of the left stick initiates a sprint, while releasing or tilting the stick away from the top returns the character to normal walking speed. The decision to abandon the face button sprint is significant, as it marks a departure from a long-standing tradition within the GTA franchise.

Performance Concerns and Release Date

The recent gameplay reveal of Netflix’s extended GTA 6 showcase highlighted impressive visuals and a detailed world, but also raised concerns about performance. The game ran at a consistent 30 FPS, leaving many wondering if higher framerate options would be available. Following the showcase, it was confirmed that GTA 6 will run at 30 FPS on consoles, with Rockstar reportedly hesitant to implement a 60 FPS mode. A potential “Performance” mode could arrive post-launch.

GTA 6 is slated for release on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

No Rest for the Wicked: Delaying Perfection

Moon Studios’ highly anticipated Action RPG, No Rest for the Wicked, has been delayed into next year. Originally planned for an October release, the game will now launch in March 2027. This announcement came via a social media post from the official No Rest for the Wicked accounts.

“The honest truth is that we’re a small team, and we’re holding our games to a standard we won’t compromise on. We’re close, but close isn’t good enough for our full 1.0 launch. The extra time will help us improve performance, tighten the class system, and polish the whole game to the standard you all deserve. We’d rather take a few more months than ship something that we know isn’t quite perfect yet.”

While disappointing for those eagerly awaiting the game, this delay offers a silver lining: a new open beta test is scheduled for December, allowing players to experience No Rest for the Wicked before its official release. Furthermore, anyone who purchases the game before January 2027 will receive exclusive in-game founder rewards upon launch. PlayStation pre-orders will open in January, giving console players approximately two months to secure these rewards.

In a video released on the Moon Studios YouTube channel, studio founder Thomas Mahler elaborated on the decision, describing the “mad dash” to add features like the class system this year. This suggests that the team felt the game wasn’t quite ready for its original release date.

While this delay pushes No Rest for the Wicked away from the crowded holiday season, it also allows the developers to refine their creation and avoid clashing with other major releases like Gears of War: E-Day, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Perhaps this extra time will ultimately result in a more polished and enjoyable experience for players.
