Get ready to sharpen your swords (virtually, of course)! No Rest for the Wicked, the highly anticipated Action RPG from the brilliant minds at Moon Studios (the team behind Ori), has been pushed back to March 2027. While this news might sting for those eagerly awaiting its arrival, there’s a silver lining: new beta opportunities and exclusive rewards for early adopters.
A Delay with Perks
The announcement, delivered via a social media post, explained that the team is committed to delivering a polished and exceptional experience. “We’re close, but close isn’t good enough for our full 1.0 launch,” the statement read. The extra time will be used to refine performance, enhance the class system, and ensure the game meets the high standards Moon Studios has set for itself.
To soften the blow of the delay, Moon Studios is offering a new open beta test in December, giving players a fresh opportunity to dive into the world of No Rest for the Wicked. Furthermore, anyone who purchases the game before January 2027 will receive exclusive founders rewards upon its official launch. PlayStation pre-orders will begin in January, allowing console players to snag those same coveted bonuses.
In a video released on the Moon Studios YouTube channel, studio founder Thomas Mahler elaborated on the decision. He described the “mad dash” to incorporate features like the class system and acknowledged that the team ultimately felt the game needed more time to reach its full potential.
Dodging the Release Calendar
While a delay is never ideal, No Rest for the Wicked is cleverly sidestepping what promises to be an incredibly crowded release calendar this year. By avoiding October, it won’t have to compete with heavy hitters like Gears of War: E-Day, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Perhaps this extra time will ultimately benefit the game in the long run.
GTA 6: No More Sprint Button Tapping!
In other gaming news, Rockstar Games is shaking up a long-standing tradition with Grand Theft Auto 6. For nearly 25 years, GTA games have required players to tap a face button (X or A) to sprint. But the upcoming installment is ditching that control scheme in favor of using the left stick (L3) for sprinting – a move that’s already generating buzz among fans.
Rockstar recently showcased GTA 6 to select media outlets and content creators, revealing details about driving mechanics, character relationships, and the expansive open world. While the gameplay footage was impressive, it also highlighted some of the finer nuances, including this significant control change. Content creator MikeShowSha, who attended one of these previews, shared his experience in a Q&A video (though entirely in Italian!).
The news quickly spread across Reddit and social media, with players eager to discuss this departure from tradition. While tapping a face button for sprinting has been a GTA staple for years, it’s a control scheme that feels increasingly outdated compared to modern games, where L3 is the standard for initiating a sprint.
The recent Netflix gameplay reveal of GTA 6 showcased stunning visuals and a detailed world, but also ran at a somewhat disappointing 30 FPS. Following the showcase, it was confirmed that GTA 6 will run at 30 FPS on consoles, with Rockstar reportedly hesitant to add a performance mode that would allow for 60 FPS gameplay. If a performance mode does arrive, it will likely be implemented after the game’s launch.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to release on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
