Xbox’s new chief executive, Asha Sharma, has emphasized that she is closely monitoring the console’s exclusive‑content roadmap, touting the first 100 days of her tenure as a period of significant progress.
During a Bloomberg Live session on Thursday, Sharma was questioned about the lessons she’s learned at the helm of Microsoft’s gaming division and about the company’s stance on exclusivity.
Sharma reiterated that Xbox will “reevaluate” its exclusivity model, acknowledging that many players feel the brand has diminished in value after Microsoft’s decision to release its first‑party titles on rival platforms such as the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
“It’s a tough topic,” she said during the event. “Look, we’re the number two publisher in the world and, to be a great publisher, you must have your games reach large audiences to play.”
Microsoft’s strategy is evolving beyond a mere console brand into a full‑blown platform, and that shift hinges on securing exclusive content and services that keep users locked in.
“We’re scrutinizing every title with a fine‑tooth comb, learning from industry peers to ensure each release aligns with our long‑term vision,” said Satya Nadella, emphasizing a careful, data‑driven approach to content curation.
Sharma’s debut as Xbox chief executive coincided with her 100‑day milestone—a benchmark she described as “unparalleled.” She outlined an audacious plan to elevate Xbox to the premier destination for gaming and entertainment over the coming years.
“We’ve achieved remarkable momentum in the first 100 days, surpassing the entire year’s output,” Sharma announced. “Game Pass has rebounded from an eight‑month slump, now enjoying renewed growth and deeper player retention.”
Most importantly, we’re beginning to reconnect with the community that has always been at the heart of our vision. Over the next 100 days, the company will undertake a comprehensive reset—scrutinizing our investments, redefining priorities, and reshaping operations—to reignite growth and position ourselves as the platform where the world plays.
Sharma has launched a heartfelt outreach to core fans following his appointment as Xbox CEO, succeeding Phil Spencer earlier this year. Alongside rebranding Xbox to XBOX and slashing Game Pass prices, he has pledged to act decisively on player feedback concerning the console experience and its policies.
The first major showcase under Sharma’s leadership, the Xbox Games Showcase, is scheduled to launch this weekend on Sunday, June 7.
