Ever since we played the first installment back in 2015, we’ve been eagerly anticipating a revival of that unique adolescent terror, B-class and brimming with clichés that had us jumping out of our seats. Surprisingly, it’s not Supermassive Games taking the helm, but the team from Firesprite Games (the same crew behind the VR of Horizon). They have some big shoes to fill, but they’ve just announced Until Dawn 2 for PS5 in 2027, and the premise carries that nostalgic scent of ’90s horror cinema that we love.

We forget about the snowy cabin and the mountain as we journey to a deserted tropical island. The cast of this sequel is a group of paranormal influencers from the channel “Dead True”. Essentially, they create fake scares for internet views. Laughter and office drama ensue until they realize that the horrors are real and ancient.

The game maintains its decision-making structure where pressing the wrong button or answering incorrectly can result in a character’s permanent demise. The “Butterfly Effect” remains intact, and they promise that the relationships among the group members will be the central theme of who lives and who dies.

A beautiful detail left by the trailer is the appearance of Dr. Hill. Yes, the indomitable Peter Stormare returns to torment our psyche chapter after chapter. (We’ll have to see how they justify his presence in this new story, but it’s always a thrill to have an actor of his caliber driving us insane).

In the coming months, Firesprite has promised to showcase more gameplay and reveal the rest of the cast. With the first game setting a high bar, Firesprite faces the challenging task of demonstrating their understanding of an engaging interactive slasher. Changing development studios always instills fear, but the concept of trapping influencers on an island with real monsters is a perfect hook to watch them squirm.

The upcoming game promises to deliver a unique blend of horror and humor, with a focus on cooperative multiplayer. This approach could set it apart from other games in the genre and provide a fresh experience for players.
