At long last, they unveiled the first gameplay trailer and release date for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the much-anticipated total reimagining of the iconic 1996 video game. Mark your calendars: Lara Croft returns to scale cliffs on February 12, 2027. And the good news is that no one gets left behind on this expedition, as the title lands on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and yes, Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day of release.

What we saw in the trailer left us with our jaws on the floor. This isn’t just a high-definition facelift; it’s a zero-to-one remake using Unreal Engine 5. The developers explained that they took classic levels, such as the Lost Valley of Peru or Greek ruins, and expanded them to create semi-connected environments. Gone are the days of jumping from one boxy room to another; we now explore organic-feeling places where puzzles, like the infamous gear-based puzzle, are seamlessly integrated into the environment.

Combat also received a modern adrenaline boost. Lara returns with her classic dual pistols, but now boasts new acrobatic abilities, a grappling hook for traversal, and close combat moves to dispatch mercenaries and, of course, face off against the legendary T-Rex.
