In a decisive move to clean up the PlayStation 5 (PS5) library, Sony is swiftly removing subpar games, also known as shovelware, at an impressive pace. Our previous reports have highlighted thousands of such titles that have been taken down from the PS Store.
Now, the platform holder seems to be on a mission, with the indie studio Acyntha being the latest casualty. The studio announced that its partnership with PlayStation has been terminated, resulting in the removal of their games from Sony’s digital storefront by the end of this month.
Acyntha’s portfolio includes unconventional titles such as Pizza No Pizza and New Supper Banana. This move by Sony signifies a stronger stance against low-quality content, aiming to enhance the overall gaming experience on the PS5 platform.
It is evident that these games, while less egregious than some we’ve previously covered like Jumping Sushi, share a common trait: they all boast remarkably straightforward Platinum Trophies, seemingly designed for this purpose alone.
Questions arise regarding Sony’s internal procedures and the reason behind their inability to prevent such titles from proliferating at the source. While it is commendable that they are gradually phasing out these releases, one might ponder why these titles aren’t barred from the PS Store altogether before they become available.
However, it is reassuring to see that Sony is taking steps to purge low-quality titles from its platform, thereby enhancing the overall user experience and upholding the reputation of PlayStation as a premium gaming destination.
