As the KDE community approaches the final release of Plasma 6.7, the developers have issued a fresh edition of their “This Week in Plasma” newsletter, spotlighting a torrent of updates that have rippled through the KDE ecosystem over the past week.
Last Tuesday marked the launch of Plasma 6.7 Beta 2, a pivotal milestone that addressed several long‑standing usability concerns. The update eliminated a frustrating bug that allowed users to drag windows so far beyond a screen edge that they became unreachable, restoring smooth window management.
In addition, the beta fixed a glitch where renamed desktop files would vanish when multiple activities were active, and introduced 802.1x authentication via hardware keys, enhancing security for enterprise users. Remote desktop sessions now remain responsive during clipboard transfers, and auto‑hide panels seamlessly integrate with edge‑based desktop switching.
In preparation for Plasma 6.8, the KDE team is rolling out a suite of refinements aimed at improving both usability and accessibility. One notable enhancement is a lock‑screen warning that alerts users when the “Slow Keys” feature is enabled, helping prevent accidental mistypes during login. The lock screen will also honor PAM timeout settings directly, removing unnecessary delays, while Discover now notifies users when a Flatpak replacement requires manual recreation of custom desktop shortcuts.
