Fastfetch 2.64 Released: New Logos & Major Enhancements

With this update, Fastfetch can now detect hardware-accelerated video codecs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android through the new Codec module. On Linux and BSD systems, VA-API is used by default with a fallback to VDPAU on Nvidia hardware if compiled with libva and libvdpau. Windows users benefit from D3D12VA on Windows 11 or D3D11VA with Media Foundation Transforms on older systems, while macOS utilizes VideoToolbox and Android employs AMediaCodec. Users can manually toggle Vulkan Video via the config file, and the program will report both encoders and decoders unless configured otherwise.

In addition to this, logo support for Quasar, Origami, Origami_small, NixOS2, and BerserkArch has been incorporated into this release. Notably, BerserkArch is a specialized Arch Linux derivative designed for security researchers and power users. This distribution includes an offensive security tool manager named berserk, enabling users to install complex hacking toolkits with single terminal commands.

Version 2.64 introduces a suite of refinements that streamline the build process and reduce footprint. Developers can now leverage native CMake flags to selectively disable modules, cutting the final binary size. Additionally, users wishing to trim their installation further can simply delete unnecessary ASCII logo files from the source tree before compiling.

The formatting engine has been upgraded with full ANSI‑escape awareness, enabling precise text centering via the new vertical bar specifier while preserving color fidelity. This enhancement ensures that styled output remains intact across a wider range of terminal environments.

Haiku enthusiasts will find early support for key system components, including the boot manager, window manager theme, and screen brightness controls, laying the groundwork for a more cohesive user experience.

In a notable Linux update, the edition now pulls desktop wallpaper and theme information directly from the contemporary COSMIC desktop environment, allowing for a seamless visual integration that reflects the user’s chosen aesthetic.
