Asus has unveiled an upgraded edition of its handheld console, the ROG Xbox Ally, featuring a refreshed design that promises a sleeker and more ergonomic experience for gamers on the move.
The original ROG Xbox Ally debuted in October 2025, offering two distinct variants: the white model at $599.99 and the premium black Xbox Ally X priced at $999.99.
In a celebration of two decades of the Republic of Gamers (ROG) legacy, Asus introduces the Xbox Ally X20—a third iteration that builds upon the Ally X foundation while incorporating subtle refinements.
Powered by the same AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a generous 1 TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage, the Xbox Ally X20 is engineered to deliver performance on par with the $999.99 Ally X, ensuring that gamers receive the same high-end experience without compromise.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 now features a larger 7.4‑inch OLED panel, a step up from the 7‑inch IPS screens found on its siblings. This upgrade brings a richer, more immersive visual experience to handheld gaming.
“This has been a fan‑favorite request from the start,” Asus explained. “After years of research and development, we’ve delivered a display that truly meets the demands of serious gamers.”
The new Nebula HDR Display delivers Full HD resolution at a blistering 120 Hz refresh rate and supports FreeSync Premium Pro, a critical feature for smooth, tear‑free gameplay. Once you feel the fluidity of variable refresh rates, you’ll never want to return to a lower‑refresh experience.
Additionally, the OLED screen peaks at 1400 nits and is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified, ensuring that HDR titles and video content pop with striking clarity. Corning Gorilla Glass with DXC technology reduces glare by 65 %, allowing players to focus on the action without distraction from ambient light.
The ROG XBOX Ally X20 Bundle has arrived, featuring the handheld console alongside the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses for an elevated portable gaming experience.
Beyond its larger OLED display, the X20 refines its thumbsticks with TMR sensor technology, delivering pinpoint precision, smoother tracking, and extended durability—outperforming traditional Hall Effect sensors to eliminate stick drift.
The controller’s D-Pad is also versatile, allowing users to toggle between a classic 4-direction layout and an 8-direction mode, catering to a wide range of game genres.
While Asus has announced the bundle, it has yet to disclose pricing details or whether the X20 will be sold separately, with or without the AR glasses.
VGC’s assessment of the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X frames it as a high‑end device that commands a correspondingly high price tag. The review highlights that the console is engineered to be a versatile all‑rounder, yet it avoids the common pitfall of being a mediocre generalist by delivering top‑tier performance and a broad array of readily accessible app stores.
