Since the 2015 release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED has delivered two major story expansions for the beloved RPG. Though the studio had been presumed to have shifted focus to the next series entry, it has just confirmed that another expansion is currently in development for the aging title.
Officially titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, the new expansion will return players to the world of Geralt of Rivia for a fresh adventure. CD Projekt RED revealed that the project is being crafted in partnership with Fool’s Theory, the indie studio known for titles such as Thaumaturge and Seven: The Days Long Gone.
So far, only a single image has surfaced, leaving gameplay footage and storyline details under wraps. The title suggests a return to Geralt’s past, and fans speculate it might serve as a narrative bridge between The Witcher 3 and the forthcoming The Witcher 4, possibly hinting at the new protagonist’s origins.
Rumors of a third story expansion have lingered for some time, but this marks the first official confirmation. The studio intended to unveil the news during tomorrow’s livestream; however, a leak on its launcher prompted an early reveal.
